Romance scams

Romance scammers build trust online and then ask for money, gifts, cryptocurrency or help with an urgent financial problem. If this has happened to you, you are not alone and you do not need to feel ashamed.

Stop sending money and avoid confronting the person if doing so could put you at risk. Preserve profile links, messages, phone numbers, payment receipts and transaction details. Contact your bank or payment provider as soon as possible.

Protect yourself from follow-up scams

People who have already lost money may be targeted again by someone claiming they can recover it. Be wary of guaranteed results, pressure tactics and requests for upfront payments to release funds.
